noble experiment in non-commer-cial journalism can continue to bring
you factual information and serve
as a forum for your concerns well
into the future, as it has for the last
24 years. If you think what we do is
important—and you obviously do or
you wouldn’t be reading this—give

riding buddies. Not only will you
be able to keep your own MCN collection intact, but you’ll be paying
it forward, so your friends will be
inspired to do the same for another
rider in the future.
We need your help.
With all the articles on
adventure travel we’ve
run lately, I just had to
get my trusty DR650
ready for a real off-road
trip. Only one item had
been overlooked, engine
protection to guard the vulnerable alternator and clutch covers from the shift and brake levers
in a fall. These rugged stamped stainless steel plates from ProCycle
($89.95) did the job and applied easily with red silicone gasket sealer.
Now, I’m ready. // www.procycle.us; 1-800-496-5516.

Motion Pro JIS Screwdriver Bits
JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) screwdrivers are necessary for every Japanese
machine, from cars to motorcycles and
almost all electronic devices. Don’t let the
apparent similarity of a Phillips screwdriver
bit damage or destroy the screw heads on
your bikes. Although we brought this fact to
your attention back in March of 2013, it still isn’t
widely known. Craftsman and Snap-On still don’t sell
JIS screwdrivers and the professional grade JIS screwdrivers from Vessel ( www.vesseltools.com; rjrcooltools.
com) are not widely available, either. But now you have
another choice. Motion Pro, whose products are available through almost
every motorcycle shop, now sells 1/4" hex-drive JIS bits in all three popular
sizes (#1, 2, 3) at a reasonable $3.50 for two and also sells a T-handle bit driver
with all three sizes included for $21.99 (#08-0557); // www.motionpro.com
